Weissman Ltd. specializes in the construction of professionally designed R-2000 homes, using insulated concrete forms (ICF), radiant in floor heating and gas-fired, direct vent (sealed) water heaters.  Incorporating leading edge technology at the time of construction ensures improved indoor air quality, improved comfort and reduced energy costs over the long term.  Weissman Ltd. also believes energy efficient, healthy housing should be affordable.

Bogdan R. (Richard) Zagorowski, President of Weissman Ltd., has over 30 years of construction experience in Europe and Canada.  When Richard came to Canada in 1992, he didn’t speak English but he had a wealth of knowledge about construction techniques which were common in Europe, but then quite novel in Canada.  Having experience from Germany, Richard took the required training and became a Wirsbo certified designer and installer of radiant in floor heating systems.

Richard is not interested in mass producing houses.  He would rather take the time to create a well designed, energy efficient home using the latest technology.  Since 1997, Richard has constructed two single detached homes with radiant in floor heating and substantially renovated an older two and a half storey single detached home including the installation of radiant in floor heating.

In 2000, Richard embarked on his most ambitious project to date, a three-storey, six unit apartment building, which he completed in 2003.  The apartments feature radiant in floor heating, ceramic tiles, oak hardwood flooring, oak kitchen cabinets, large south facing windows, whirlpool tubs, HRVs and other luxury finishes.

In September 2004, after extensive research and planning, Richard began construction of five townhomes on Fifth Avenue in Thunder Bay.  Each of the townhomes is enrolled in the R-2000 program.  The townhomes feature radiant in floor heating, porcelain tiles, oak staircase, maple kitchen cabinets, large windows, jetted tubs, separate showers, HRVs, HEPA air filtration systems and other luxury finishes.

In September 2006, Richard received Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's Healthy Housing™ Recognition.  CMHC's Healthy Housing™ Recognition Program was established to honour builders and renovators who have a demonstrated knowledge of healthy housing practices.

Richard is a trained R-2000 Builder and has also completed R-2000 training as a Plans Evaluator, Inspector and Air Tightness Tester.  Richard is an HRAI certified designer and  installer of Residential Mechanical Ventilation Systems.  Richard is also HRAI certified in Heat Loss and Heat Gain Calculations.

Richard has training in the installation of insulated concrete forms and in colouring and stamping concrete floors.  Richard has also taken training related to the design and installation of ground source heat pumps.

In an ongoing effort to keep abreast of the most advanced technology available for energy efficient, healthy housing, Richard attended the AHR (Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration) Expo in 2006 (Chicago), 2008 (New York City), 2009 (Chicago) and 2011 (Chicago); and the 2008 RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network) Building Performance Conference in San Diego, California.
